On this day in 1863 during the Battle of Chickamauga, the tide turned in favor of the Confederates. Late in the preceding day, Generals James Longstreet and John B. Hood arrived from Virginia, and these 2 veterans with their armies of the eastern campaigns inspired Bragg's men with confidence.
