Historical and Genealogical Research

Calvin M. McClung Historical Collection Reading RoomOne of the premier research libraries in the Southeast, the Calvin M. McClung Historical Collection provides a wealth of materials for East Tennessee research. While the collection is regional in focus, visitors will find a wide range of materials for all of Tennessee and for most other states. These include the First Families of Tennessee files, which are the largest collection of resource information for Tennessee pioneer settlers, a large manuscript collection, photographs, books, thousands of surname and subject files, published and unpublished family histories, military records, materials for Cherokee and African American research, published and microfilmed Tennessee county records, and much, much more.

Established in 1921, the McClung Historical Collection is the genealogy and history research branch of the Knox County Public Library.

To access the Historical Collection, the Selected Holdings or the Digital Photographic Collection, visit the McClung Historical Collection website.
