2017 ETHS Christmas Ornament

This limited edition, hand painted ornament is produced by an East Tennessee Company and will be a wonderful addition to your family Christmas Tree! The ornament, a meaningful gift for anyone with ties to East Tennessee, depicts the Christmas Créche on display in The Museum of East Tennessee History during each Holiday Season.

Prized for generations, the hand carved Crèche was brought to this country in 1883 by the Charles Gottlieb Frickey family from Erzgebirge in Saxony, Germany. Family members eventually settled in Roane County, TN. Referred to by the family as “The Christmas Stump”, most of the collection dates to the early 1800’s, some possibly earlier. About 1930, it was given to the Dr. George E. Wilson family, who, wishing to ensure its permanent care, donated it to ETHS.
